In recent weeks PvE has been getting a lot of discussion and awareness raised by the player base. While I am not against any more PvE changes to EVE online, I do think it could do with a bit of an overhaul, (I do have a post draft saved somewhere). My time has been taken up so much lately trying to plan a PvP based event in Mass of Wrecks events fleet. There has now been event conflict with the #pew4reps charity vehement fleet, which the organizers happened to plan to take place on the same evening as mass of wrecks maiden fleet. Content guaranteed – even if our fleet will be smaller now.
During the planning stages of the mass of wrecks event, I have been asked some questions which have left me either stunned or intrigued. Stretch goals are not really a prospect I had considered with mass of wrecks, it needs to build upon its foundations first. While I will be happy with 24 pilots turning up for the fleet, the brand still has a long way to come. Some of the planning also took me back a few years to some of the websites I used to run for competitive xbox and playstation clans.
There is one aspect of those websites which we are now able to consider bringing to EVE Online, which we have opted to call the EVE Arena.
A crucible of combat, the EVE Arena will provide a competitive esports environment for EVE Online and furture CCP products. There has been some things like this in the game before and this is now only being considered because of the attractiveness of the new Thunderdome server that is being developed by CCP for player events and tournaments.
In the past this required dedicated hosting and its own customisable databases, which I am not able to access under my current hosts. That being said, I have been looking at various hosting packages over the last few days, and have now settled on a new dedicated host which will enable me to migrate all of my websites over to it, as well as start the development website for the EVE Arena.
Over the years I have made only a few EVE fansites, ranging from corp websites to in-game news related websites. Some I have not been proud of, purely because of a clash in personal ethics, or I misunderstood the demand for such a fansite. That mishap is unlikely to happen with EVE Arena, in which I will involve the entire competitive playerbase in its development and how it should move forwards.
Just like mass of wrecks, this will require a solid foundation to build upon, and unless you are interested in competitive play, this entire project will not interest you at all. Those that are interested will soon be able to join in on the discussion and development of the EVE Arena, as soon as we get the hosting set up and domain sorted out.
