Today I was able to log into EVE and actually got myself into a couple of fights. It has been many months since I have last blogged never mind logged in to actually get some game-play done. It felt strange and weird, and I felt completely lost.
The last thing that I did before taking a short break was joining Gal-Mil, GMVA to be precise. I have flown with them before and even done some FW related things before, but I literally joined for the content, and there is plenty of it.
Logging in the Gal-MIL HQ system, I see already a Caldari pilot in local, out there running a complex, no doubt waiting for a fight. I don’t check killboards, I undock my Fed Navy Comet and go to the novice complex in system. Boom, Condor inside. I can’t be that out of touch with the game I think, as I slide into the room. This is where I became aware of just how rusty I am at PvP.
Before joining FW as a solo pilot I would sit in these complexes on the “button” and wait for ANYONE to spring my “trap” If you came into my room, there was going to be a fight weighted in my favor.
This fight was no different, I was entering the Condors trap and he played it rather easily as he was able to kite my AB/Blaster fit Comet at a more than comfortable 18KM. My Hobgoblins were my only hope to kill this guy, as I had no chance to catch him in a web, or get in range to even hit him. I tried a couple of sling-shot moves but the closest I managed to get was about 14KM.
While I was attempting the sling-shots, I had not been paying attention to my drones, which there was only one left 😦 The Comet is a great ship in that it allows you to have 6 light drones, in two waves of 3. I am not ashamed to admit that my next wave of drones was EC-300’s. Jams landed, and I headed back to station, heart pumping. It’s just a Condor!
Local chatter is ongoing and one local mentions that the “Condor can’t be killed” seems I am not the only one to have attempted it, and this only encourages me more. I swap out the AB for a MWD, and decide to keep the blasters. He was using tracking disruption and I figure if I get on top of him, it will instantly be game over. I restock on drones, and find him still in the novice complex.
This engagement lasts a lot longer, with roles perhaps reversed. The MWD enabled me to surprise him, but not even compare really in speed. He was able to kite me at a steady 16KM while bouncing back and forth in sling-shots I just could not close the range for tackle. I was paying more attention to my drones taking damage this time and was recalling them selectively until I decided it was again time for the EC-300’s. I have no honor okay!
While he was fighting the drones, I sling-shot out of his point and out of the fight.
There may have been no killmails here, GF’s were given in local, and the pilot mentioned how he had missed the orbit. The fight was definitely going his way and I didn’t really want to lose a Comet to a Condor. It was a great fight and good to find so easily when I only have a few hours to play here and there if I am lucky. Kudos to the guy for not calling in support from next door.
Joining Gal-Mil has been a good choice. The warzones seem active and targets are there if you want them.
